Theresa Waldspurger

I have a Ph.D. in linguistics and have taught expository writing to first year students here at Appalachian State, and I enjoy mentoring and guiding them toward self-awareness and their place in the world.  I have spent much time researching and reflecting on our relationships with and responsibilities to animals, as well as taking action on behalf of animals in the form of volunteering, lifestyle changes, pursuing changes in local, state, and federal laws, and participation with animal rights organizations via petitions, phone calls, marches, membership, and monetary donations. I am enthusiastic about leading first year students in an exploration of how their own beliefs and habits affect the lives of nonhuman animals, and urging them to act more deliberately toward the other living beings with which they share the planet.
