Shawn Terrell

Shawn Terrell is a practicing veterinarian in the Appalachian region of North Carolina. He is also a part time instructor in the Sustainable Development Program at Appalachian State University.  Shawn holds a B.S. in Biology from Auburn University Montgomery, a D.V.M. from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, and a M.A. in Appalachian Studies from Appalachian State University.  Shawn’s research has focused on folk veterinary medicine, animal healthcare accessibility, and sustainable agriculture in Southern Appalachia.  His teaching experiences include international veterinary outreach and development; animal health; livestock production; and Appalachian Studies.  As a veterinarian and farmer, Shawn has extensive first-hand experience with the human-animal relationship.  In teaching this course, he hopes to expand student awareness of the many ways in which human and non-human animals have influence on each other’s existence.
