Appalachian’s First Year Seminar Named Top 15 in the United States

The U.S. News & World Report 2015 Guide names Appalachian State as having one of the best first-year programs in the nation. In the spring of 2014 U.S. News & World Report invited college presidents, chief academic officers, deans of students, and deans of admissions from more than 1,500 schools to nominate up to ten institutions with stellar examples of first-year experiences. Appalachian State was ranked among the top 15 in the nation, in the company of Stanford University, the University of Michigan, University of Virginia, and Evergreen State College. Congratulations, Appalachian State! And, the faculty in Appalachian's First Year Seminar program should feel particularly proud of what they do to inspire and enrich the educational experience of the Appalachian students, increase a sense of belonging for the incoming students, and enhance student success and retention.

Appalachian State is also the only UNC school in the top ten regional universities in U.S. News & World Report. Appalachian is also by far the least expensive university in its class of top regional universities of the south.
