This course will acquaint students with mental health resources and issues. The course will give students an opportunity to explore research and/or stories of aspects of mental health. Students will have an opportunity to be exposed to the contents of the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders published by the American Psychiatric Association in 1994. Additionally, this course will familiarize students with the most common mental health disorders and explore the prevalence of mental health realities. Emphasis is placed on the bio-psycho-social aspects of mental health issues and clarifying values. The course will highlight the changing roles inherent in mental health settings.
