Through this course, students reflect on their image of the child - that is, their beliefs about children. Students explore ways these beliefs are culturally constructed while examining perceptions of children in the United States, Reggio Emilia, Italy, and other countries. Through presentations, readings, analyzing print and digital sources, discussion of course material, and their own lived experiences, students will become aware of their implicit beliefs about children and how those beliefs influence actions.  Students will gain a deeper appreciation for the child while also broadening their understanding of the concept of "the image of the child."
